I've only been here a week, but it feels like so much longer. I feel like I should say something about it... but where do I start?
Well, I learned tonight that I can effectively communicate with taxi drivers, so that's a start. Also, whenever I do stuff with my American friends, sightseeing, shopping, and so on, I'm pretty much the only one who knows where to go (good sense of direction + good sense of general layout of Kyoto), what to say, etc. and so I'm starting to feel like a tour guide... except I've never been here before. It's kinda fun, though. XD
The language school is great. After a week it's getting easier to keep up with my teachers talking in Japanese all the time. They're pretty fun (there are three who rotate irregularly every few days). Today's sensei was kind of odd... very funny and energetic, but he had a balloon inflater toy that he would use to pump balloons and threatened to shoot them at students if they didn't answer a question quickly enough. (He never actually shot any.) It was very bizarre.
I'll say more eventually, but it's kind of late. For photos and more, please visit my blog! talesofkyoto.tumblr.com
*deep breath*
I got back from Tahoe last night, and the family reunion was fun... but sort of oddly surreal, I guess because I was tired a lot, and frustrated from forced social contact and all that fun stuff (also the heat and thin air filled with dust), and people were stressed about plans and food and the very surprising lack of cell reception. But it was still fun and quite an adventure. I'm glad to be back though.
Next week I leave for Kyoto, so this week is all about packing, making sure I have medicine and stuff, finishing two commissions (one I forgot about entirely and then I couldn't find the rest of my fans;; but the other is a painting of a do
Redbubble
I opened a Redbubble shop for prints! http://www.redbubble.com/people/sarurunkamui
And maybe some other stuff, Apple device cases... once I actually produce something shirt-worthy, and once I get Photoshop or something on this computer so I can work with psd files again... I can't get the poster option to work, but Breath of Spring posters are still available on my Etsy shop. It's a hassle to print and ship smaller prints myself, though, so I thought I'd leave that to Redbubble, whose prints also have the best proportions for this work IMO.
It's kind of spartan right now. Eventually I'll try to make more art for prints. Some of it's just no
Kyoto Blog
http://talesofkyoto.tumblr.com/
I set up the blog I'll be running while studying abroad in Kyoto this summer! I get there July 16, so there won't be much happening until then, but feel free to bookmark this or whatever if you want to see what I'm up to there. (Or follow, if you have Tumblr.) Good photos and such will eventually make their way to my account here, but all my thoughts, stories, and snapshots will be posted there. I'll probably also make a few posts of places I want to go and such. I think it'll be a good space to establish (and remember) my goals for while I'm there.
Okami + Katamari tea blends!
Update: I am pleased to announce that all of the blends are now available! Several are currently out of stock on the East coast, though.
Also, Adagio has the option of "shipping" blends, which gives a 10% discount on both when bought together. Kushi and Susano are in a ship, of course. If there are any other tea ships you guys would like, please let me know! Even if they're just two teas you want to buy together. I'll use the most popular ships. And it seems they do offer international shipping after all!
Here's a little side project I've been working on for a while: character-based tea blends on Adagio.com. I have three Katamari blends, Am
